A month without a home

I’ve been officially “homeless” for a little over a month. I’ve come to find out a few things:

People don’t REALLY care, but they care a little (friends and family). I do think blame them. What can THEY do to help my situation,  except to throw money at it or offer work or shelter? When neither of those is an option, I’m bum out of luck. Whoa, is that where that phrase came from?

Bathrooms are a COMMODITY. “DO NOT USE OUR BATHROOM UNLESS YOU ARE A PAYING CUSTOMER. IT IS NOT FREE TO SHIT. FUCK YOU AND YOUR BAD DECISIONS.” (not a direct quote, but the feeling I get at most fast food places)

PARKING IS A SCAM! STREET SWEEPING, MORE LIKE HOMELESS SWEEPING! “ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE FINDING PARKING AND A PLACE TO SLEEP IN THE BACK OF YOUR CAR? FUCK OFF. I’M THE CITY, I DON’T GIVE A FUCK.”

I never knew how much I’d miss taking a shower every day. Laundromats EXPLOIT wash-cycle prices if they also have wifi and 4 different TVs showing 4 different things.

Some Starbucks have gotten rid of their open outlet situation AND don’t have a bathroom. More deterrent for “THE VAGRANT DIRTY FUCKING HOMELESS ASSHOLES WHO ARE THE ONLY ONES TO BLAME FOR THEIR DISCRETION. HEATHENS & PEASANTS. *spit-noise*”

$7 is more than ANYONE should EVER pay at A FAST FOOD PLACE for a combo. If you’re buying combos every time you go out to fast food, you’re being like Liam Neeson’s daughter…Taken. SEVEN DOLLARS?! FUCK YOU I’M NOT A MILLIONAIRE!!

I’m not here to ask for monetary help but, instead, to inform.

I moved up to L.A. July of 2014 and it’s been an uphill battle ever since. I’ve had many amazing guests on my podcast, seen swathes of shows, and worked handfuls of acting / production / delivery gigs. The gig economy is imploding. We’re reaching further and further into Idiocracy every day and everyone’s RUNNING to become WALL-E.

When was the last time you saw a movie without looking for a review or opinion on it beforehand? Did you avoid previews or do you have 3 parts from the preview stuck in your head for all time? How about music? Do you listen to the radio or do you seek out and listen to music that you’d like? Mixes are great; some albums are meant to be played from beginning to end. When’s the last time you did that?

Attention spans! I had to jump to a new ¶ cause I was losing you.

TL;DR

Im in A LOT of financial trouble. Credit card companies and debt collectors call me every day, multiple times a day. So much so, that my phone has started labeling some of the numbers as “SCAM LIKELY”. Yeah, I’ll answer that, or they can sit through my minute-long voicemail.

I’ve written 10 scripts (3 are specs) and I’m working on like 20 others. I created a font called #FaceItFont at dougathan.deviantart.com and I make music, I’m writing a book about my life called “LDFS: Growing up Mormon, Discovering Weed at 30, and then Getting Lyme Disease”. I’d be writing it more, if I wasn’t sleeping in the back of my car. I need work. There is A LOT of work out there, and also everyone is struggling.

I have a project that’s going to be the largest crowdsourcing Kickstarter or Indiegogo has ever seen. This is bigger than Tesla and I am not being hyperbolic.

What I’m asking of you, the reader, is to dig deep in your memory and your heart and think of someone you know who could maybe help spread the word. I need to AMPLIFY my voice. It’s tough from the back seat of my car.

Lucky there’s blogs.
